How It Works: 7 Steps

The whole process takes about 15–20 minutes to set up. Here's exactly what to expect.

Step 1 — Pick Your Art Style

Choose the illustration style that fits your person and the mood of your book:

• Watercolor — Soft, romantic, timeless
• 3D Cartoon — Playful and warm
• 2D Cartoon — Clean and expressive
• Black & White Manga — Bold, graphic, striking

Step 2 — Upload Your Photos

Upload 2–3 clear photos. These are used to build your custom avatar — the illustrated version of you and your person that appears throughout the book.

For best results:

• Use well-lit photos with the face clearly visible
• Recent photos give the most accurate illustrations
• Accepted formats: JPG, PNG (max 10MB per photo)

Good to know: Each time you upload new photos and regenerate your avatar, it uses credits. Get it right here and you'll save credits for illustration edits later.

Step 3 — Tell Your Story

Answer 10 thoughtful questions about your relationship, your memories, and what makes your bond unique. This is the heart of your book — the more specific you are, the more personal the result.

You can save your progress and come back, but most people find it easier to do it in one sitting while the memories are fresh. Just click Save Progress at the bottom before you leave.

Think about:

• For Love Story Books: how you met, your first date, favorite trips, inside jokes, what you're looking forward to together
• For Mother's or Father's Day Books: childhood memories, lessons they taught you, little things you love about them
• For "Why I Love You" Books: specific moments, personality traits, everyday things that made you fall for them

Step 4 — Checkout

At checkout, you'll see a preview of your book cover — an early draft to show you the direction.

A few things to know at this stage:

• The cover preview is a rough version. Final illustrations are generated after checkout at full quality.
• You won't see the full book yet, as generating all pages requires significant processing.
• This is the right moment to choose your format: Digital PDF, Softcover, or Hardcover.

Step 5 — Perfect Your Avatar

After checkout, you get a chance to refine before anything is locked in. You can upload new photos, adjust your avatar, and edit your story answers.

This step matters most. Your avatar is used to generate every illustration in your book. Once you launch your story, it cannot be changed.

Take a few minutes here. When you're happy with how it looks, hit Launch My Story — your full book will be ready in about 15 minutes.

Step 6 — Refine Your Book

Once your story generates, you're in the editing phase. This is where you shape it into exactly what you want.

What you can do:

• Edit any chapter text — no limits, no extra cost
• Regenerate illustrations — use your 20 free credits to update any image. Just click the ✦ icon and choose an edit option. No prompts, no instructions — just pick and go.

When everything feels right, validate your book to approve it for printing. Nothing goes to print until you give the final sign-off.

Step 7 — Sit Back

Your book is on its way. Track its progress anytime from your dashboard under Track Shipping, and you'll receive email updates along the way.

What to Prepare Before You Start

Having these ready will make the experience smoother and the book better.

• Clear, well-lit, with the face easy to see
• Recent photos work best
• JPG or PNG, max 10MB each

Your Stories

Don't overthink it — just jot down a few specific memories before you open the app. A specific detail ("the bench outside the coffee shop where we had our first date") always beats a vague one ("we met at a coffee shop").

15–20 Minutes

Enough to do it in one go, which almost always produces a better book than saving and returning later.
